Notes for the Suffolk L1 Umpires Register; August 2013

1. Umpires listed in the Table below are deemed active for insurance purposes and can be registered on the East Website according to East Rule 5 and can umpire games in divisions and other competitions requiring a fully accredited and active L1 umpire

2. EHUA rule 5.2 states that these umpires must be members of SCHUA or a local CHUA; J Wilkinson will invoice the clubs on behalf of SCHUA.  Clubs should have at least 2 L1 umpires for each team in the ERHA leagues

3. Umpires listed under SCHUA, ERHUA or NPUA are active due to appointments by that association last season

4. If a club wishes to register any other umpire(s) they should approach SCHUA with the following information;

For umpires new to the county/club;

·         Umpire’s name, address and contact details,

·         EHB L1 number,

·         The umpires green card showing at least 3 L1 games completed last seaso

If these are unavailable;

·         Date of accreditation and date and venue of L1 course attended,

·         Previous county where active or county that awarded L1 accreditation (if applicable),

These should be available from EHB at; umpiring@englandhockey.org or 01628 897500

For qualified L1 umpires not active due to other reasons last season, where no green card has been received by SCHUA;

·         SCHUA need to know the last date(s) the umpire was active

·         A reason for inactive status (e.g., injury, operation, family, personal or work commitments)

·         Leagues at which the umpire officiates

Inactive L1 umpires will have their individual cases investigated (by written/email application to David Charles).  SCHUA will then coach and assess the umpire at the soonest opportunity on a L1 game and will make a recommendation that the umpire is;

·         Umpiring at the current grade and given active status immediately

·         Umpiring below the current grade and needs to be coached and reassessed

·         Umpiring below the current grade and needs to re-take the L1 course

5. L1 Candidate umpires are now known as L1C umpires and are listed in the Table in bold italic type with the expiry date of their L1C status shown below the Table. If an expiry date for an L1C umpire is exceeded, that umpire is no longer eligible to umpire and will be required to re-start the qualification process from scratch in order to be eligible to umpire in future.

6. Umpires marked (**) are YOUNG UMPIRES aged under 21, some are under 18 and should not be asked to umpire adult hockey games except under the following circumstances: U18s need a fully qualified active L1 adult umpire who is not taking part in the game to act as a chaperone if they are going to umpire an adult game, ie, any game with adults playing or coaching/managing. 7. Clubs should be aware that Young Umpires are “Young” until age 23 and care is needed with their appointment.

8. Additions, deletions and updates to the Qualified Umpires list may be made from time to time and published on the SHA web site.
